Vulture count 2017

The international count of bearded vultures took place on August 19. 2017. As every year many birdwatchers gathered in the mountains in the various observation points. In the Ferrand valley the count started at 5.00 p.m. and ended at dusk.
Two observation points were organized in this valley and 151 griffon vultures could be counted. Yet another good figure for the valley but not that rare as the valley regularly provides numerous observations not only of griffons but also black and bearded vultures.

When the official report is published no doubt the figures will be good as the population of vultures has constantly grown in the last ten years.

Himalayan bridge

In the context of the development of river Romanche banks a nice piece of engineering with an impressive architecture was built across the river.

The structure is a 50 meter long Himalayan bridge that connects both sides of river Romanche near Les Roberts, a small village near Livet. The structure is part of the 9 km trail stretching from Gavet to Livet allowing to discover the 20th century industrial heritage of this part of Oisans people never visit on their way to Bourg d'Oisans or Alpe d'Huez. At least the Himalayan bridge is one good reason to stop there !
